Employability

To be employed and to be employable are two different things. To be employed means that you have a job whereas to be employable means that you have the requisite qualifications and skills in order to be employed and this is what employers are now looking for. Employability refers to the huge variety of skills required in order for you to be employable. Examples could be experience, punctuality, problem- solving skills, technological skills, willingness to take risks, a good personality, motivation, good qualifications, teamwork skills, leadership qualities and communication skills to name but a few. These skills are also referred to as soft skills which are very hard to acquire.

But have you ever thought why employers prefer to recruit employees who have such skills? A reason could be due to fierce competition. Obviously every organisation has customers and they have to satisfy the needs of these customers. Hence by recruiting people who possess a variety of skills, services offered to the customers can be improved. Consequently, this will improve the efficiency of the firm. Nowadays, there are so many persons who are coming up with excellent academic qualifications that it may not be easy for the employers to choose the correct one. Hence one must possess these various qualities which distinguish them from others and which make them employable.

Well, during an interview the interviewer asks the interviewee questions in order to know more about that person. But how much can he know of the candidate from an interview lasting a few minutes? In this era where mostly everything has been modernised, new ways have been devised for employers to ‘hunt’ for employees. How can you show your talent to a future employer? It is through blogging. By having your space on the net, you can share your ideas and thoughts. Employers will go through your profile portfolio and will hence know more about your opinions, your social life, and leadership qualities and about your personality.
